Introduction to this week's Digest Edition of 4-28-8
-
It has been a roller-coaster week of rumors, leaks and statements regarding affairs in the Middle East, especially stories involving Israel, Syria and the Palestinians. There were conflicting signals of peace and war almost all at the same time. It would seem the region has become schizophrenic in a typical Jekyll and Hyde type of tradition and the phenomena was shared by all the key players. I’ll present an analysis in our first story of this Digest edition.
While the craziness fomented in the Middle East, Washington was abuzz all week about the White House releasing intelligence information about that Israel raid on a Syrian target last September. Those revelations were finally presented before key Congressional leaders at the week’s end, but as a bonus, the White House presented some limited details to the public without revealing sources and other ‘sensitive’ details. We’ll examine the implications of that news and why it was now being told.
Meanwhile, Iran remained primarily in the background for mainstream media coverage, as we were preparing to publish this Digest edition over the weekend, some late-breaking news emerged from Iran concerning its nuclear program and sudden problem with Russia. We’ll look at that development and examine numerous warning signs flashing that war is looking more and more likely later in this edition.
As if that weren’t enough – word has leaked out that the US is beefing up its naval assets not only in the Persian Gulf but also in the Mediterranean and Red Sea. You’ll find the details later in this edition.
Another key story emerged last week concerning foods supplies. We’ll provide a further update on this developing issue as well as other tidbits of news intelligence.
