Hillary Clinton Arrives in Israel
Seeking "De-escalation"

Despite frantic diplomatic efforts in Cairo, no deal has been reached despite numerous optimistic statements from Cairo diplomats. President Obama dispatched Secretary of State Clinton to the region to assist in negotiations.

There appears to be a genuine desire on the part of Israeli PM Netanyahu for some sort of agreement. His popularity ratings have soared into the stratosphere, but public opinion polls indicate Israeli voters are opposed to a ground invasion of Gaza.

Analysts believe that if a ceasefire agreement is not reached by Thursday, Israel will more likely launch some sort of ground attack into Gaza. There are reports from Israel that the Israeli air assault  has destroyed almost all of the Palestinian's longer range rockets that can reach Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Earlier in the day one rocket did land on the outskirts of Jerusalem and air raid sirens blared repeatedly over Tel Aviv. No significant damage occurred.
