October Election Campaign Surprise?

There have been reports and speculation that the Obama re-election campaign would pull out an October Surprise that would enhance the President's chances for re-election.

During this pasts week, rumors and speculation swirled in Washington around some sort of "deal" between the White House and Iran over Iran's nuclear weapons program. There were two, totally opposite and conflicting rumors being whispered around the Washington, D.C. cocktail circuit.

Your A-O publisher/editor was desperate to obtain confirmation by phone with long-standing political contacts but couldn't due to a lack of donations. The lack of donations caused a cut-off in phone service and our inability to confirm or deny such rumors or obtain any kind of insight into what is going on from private sources. This is but one example of the repercussions that befall our reporting/publishing when donations drop off drastically.

The two conflicting rumors however were as follows:

#1. The President had given up hope of stopping Iran's nuclear weapons program by diplomacy or sanctions, concluding that the only option left was a military option.

#2. There had been ongoing back-channel negotiations between the U.S. and Iran since last March and those talks had finally led to an agreement in which the Iranians would halt its uranium enrichment temporarily in exchange for immediate cancellation of sanctions and a bilateral summit meeting between the President and Iran's Supreme Ayatollah.

On Saturday, (10/20) the New York Times published a story citing a "senior" Administration official claiming that rumor number 2 was indeed real and to be announced on Monday, (10/22) before the third and final Presidential debate. Before the day ended, a National Security Council spokesman, Tommy Vietor issued a statement denying the New York Times report. That statement included the following:

"It's not true that the United States and Iran have agreed to one-on-one talks or any meeting after the American elections. We continue to work with the P-5+1 on a diplomatic solution and have said from the outset that we would be prepared to meet bilaterally. The President has made clear that he will prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and we will do what we must to achieve that. It has always been our goal for sanctions to pressure Iran to come in line with its obligations. The onus is on the Iranians to do so, otherwise they will continue to face crippling sanctions and increased pressure."

There is much more to this story than meets the eye, but A-O is indeed handicapped by our inability to do proper follow-up investigations and reporting due to the crippling effect of declining donations limiting our capabilities to keep you, the readers informed in a timely manner. In this case, a cut-off in phone service due to an unpaid bill (totalling $80.00) from a lack of donation funding. At the moment, we're simply hobbling along, barely able to effectively function as donations to fund our operations have almost collapsed. This is especially unfortunate because it comes at a critical time when events seem to be converging with prophetic implications. It is important for us as believers (and "watchers on the wall") to be aware of trending developments and where things are specifically headed so we can respond accordingly in our witness to others and service to Him in our daily lives in the short amount of time we have left.
