Riots Break-out In Tehran

Economic Woes Trigger Protests

Iranians, fed up with a collapsing economy took to the streets of Tehran on Wednesday (10/3) to protest the collapse in value of Iran's currency known as the Rial. In less than a week, the Rial has lost nearly half of its value, which has already been in a steep decline for months in the wake of Western sanctions.

The Iranian regime called out riot police and has called up their special "militia" known as the Bassij to assist police in halting potentially larger protests in the next few says. There rumors of a general strike to take place. Particularly troublesome for the regime is the skyrocketing prices for food, which is putting a severe hardship on many Iranian households.
