2011: The Year in Review
2011:
The Year in Review
(A-O Newswire) -- At the end of every year, The Alpha-Omega Report takes a look backwards at the past year’s top news stories/developments and lists the most significant news related to Biblical Prophecy fulfillment.
The year of 2011 has proven to be the most globally, chaotic year we’ve reviewed since we started our publication in 1998. Chaos reigned not only in global geo-politics, but also in nature. Even American politics and government proved to be very chaotic. Around the world in 2011, people took to the streets to protest against the governments like never before in memory. In the Arab world, such protests toppled governments and brought other governments to their knees. Protesters took the streets across Europe and then in America. Even China and Russia experienced the masses taking to the streets to voice concerns.
Chaos reigned globally in wild weather patterns as well as geologically with swelling volcanoes and an unprecedented number of large earthquakes and a mega-tsunami which shattered portions of Japan and felt across the Pacific Ocean coastlines including the Western Hemisphere. An unprecedented number of F-5 tornadoes ripped through America’s heartlands destroying major portions of some cities, like Joplin, Missouri and smaller towns across America’s southern regions. Dust storms swept through America’s desert southwest engulfing cities like Phoenix, Arizona.
As we look back to 2011, we cannot help but put one particular issue as the number one prophetically important issue for the year. This number one event has many branches to it, but the overlying title we term as: “The Iranian Nuclear Weapons Crisis.”
The Iranian efforts to develop a nuclear weapon impacted globally and influenced many other issues, such as economics, geo-politics and diplomacy. There were threats and rumors of war to come, but no military action transpired, but the end of the year saw tensions raised to nearly interminable levels as increased tensions over access to the vital Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Persian Gulf. As the year ended, US Navy warships were on alert for potential challenges as the Iranian Navy conducted war drills.
From a prophetic standpoint, the Iranian nuclear issue impacts on the security of Israel on many different levels, in part because Israel’s neighbors to the north and south maintain close ties to Iran. Iran’s key allies comprise most of the confederated nations listed in Ezekiel’s prophecies concerning the invasion of Israel by Magog and nations allied with Magog. Rabbinical scholars consider Iran to be the “Magog” of Ezekiel’s prophecies.
The only nation listed in the confederation that is currently at odds with Iran is Turkey. Yet Turkey has turned hostile towards Israel. In the summer of 2011, Turkey threatened to go to war with Israel over the rights to natural gas fields along the Mediterranean coastline. Turkish warships, even now still patrol the area, as a potential menace to Israeli, Greek and Cypriot efforts to tap the natural gas fields at sea.
The Arab Spring revolutions across the Middle East have transformed the political landscape in the region. Numerous governments have fallen and many others are vulnerable to collapse, including Syria.
In Europe, the year was frought with frantic efforts by European leaders to avoid both an economic collapse and the disintegration of the European Union. As the year ended, the EU’s survival hung by a thread. To the West, America’s economic recovery stalled, raising new concerns about the need for a One-World currency. Indeed, an organized group of nations continues efforts to create a one-world, electronic currency.
Similarly, there is a new effort underway to create a new, global government by creating an international court system for “climate control.” This could become the first step for the establishment of a one-world government.
Amid all of the chaos in the Middle East, 2011 was the year Palestinians petitioned the UN for statehood recognition. Their efforts were “tabled” for consideration at a later time. Meanwhile, peace talks faltered and have been sidelined for the time being.
U.S. Troops withdrew from Iraq in the final weeks of December, leaving Iraq vulnerable to sectarian strife and religious civil war. Indeed, the strife between the Sunni and Shia sects of Islam appears to be spreading across the entire region and Iraq is the central battleground between the two sects.
Church apostasy continued to abound in 2011. Purpose-driven Pastor Rick Warren introduced his “Daniel Plan” for dieting and supposedly evangelical American churches joined with liberal churches to welcome Muslims into their sanctuaries for joint worship and prayers as a way to find “common” ground for peace.
Below is our list of top news stories and issues for 2011 based upon their significance in the fulfillment of Biblical Prophecies. The list is perhaps somewhat subjective of course and it starts with the top 10 issues followed by ‘honorable mentions.’
