The Syrian Revolt Crisis: On the Verge of War 7-1-11

Editor's Note:
If you've been watching mainstream news media outlets on television, radio or newspaper, you probably were unaware of the mounting tensions creating a prelude to war atmosphere between Syria and Turkey, with Turkey gaining the private support of President Obama and the EU leadership for war and regime-change in Syria. It appears that Turkey is ready to do what the West will not - remove Syria's President Assad from power, if political conditions permit. As a result of this situation, we've separated news about Syria and Turkey from our regular weekly Mideast News Spotlight and reserved it to this special page. This separation will give you a better feel for the depth of the critical situation apart from critical developments relating to Libya and to Iran.

US Warns Syria on
Troops at Turkey's Border
Amid reports that Syria has massed troops near the border with Turkey, the U.S. warned Syria of a possible escalation of tensions. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton described the situation as "very worrisome" and noted it could trigger a border clash with Turkey and further harm Syrian refugees.
Clinton called on the Assad regime to end its military crackdown and establish political reforms demanded by the Syrian protesters. She added that if Assad can't or won't follow through on reforms, then he should resign.
Syrian troops had blocked off escape routes from nearby Syrian towns to prevent further flight by refugees to Turkey. At one point, Syrian forces were within 500 yards of the Syria-Turkish border. For more details, LINK HERE.
