We Warned You This Could Happen

 

As part of our annual year ahead forecast for the coming year, The A-O Report featured a 2011 trends in which we warned that the upcoming year of 2011 could be a year of chaos. Already in January our trend analysis has come to pass, but that's not all. We were even more specific and issued a new warning of impending chaos in the Middle East.

On Monday, January 17. 2011, we again warned of a possible Middle East meltdown, which came fresh on the heels of a revolution in Tunisia and the collapse of a Pro-Western government in Lebanon. We warned then that Tunisia might be a catalyst for further chaos ensuing across the Arab world.

"Our point for your consideration is that this year of 2011 holds the promise for momentous events to unfold far greater than in the past 41 years or more. "

We also pointed out that Egypt might soon face a similar fate as Tunisia when we stated:

 

"Egypt is perhaps the most notable nation on the cusp of regime change "   LINK HERE.

 

In our "trends" preview of the year ahead for 2011 we stated:

 

"Finally, look for chaos to emerge in Egypt. Egyptian President Mubarak is suffering from terminal cancer and is slotted to give up power in 2011. It remains unclear who is successor will be but whoever succeeds him will find a challenge from radical Muslims residing in Egypt. By the end of the year, it’s entirely possible that radical Muslims could take control of Egypt."

 

It may not take nearly a year to see Egypt's government overthrown because:

On Tuesday, January 25th, protests erupted in Cairo, Egypt and the remainder of the week has witnessed an escalation of public protests turning into riots in Cairo, Alexandria and in the town of Suez. Those riots have escalated with each succeeding day this week, culminating on Friday with a "Day of Rage" in which the Egyptian Army was called upon to squelch the riots. As we post this on Friday evening, the Army failed to enforce a 13 hour night-time curfew. In fact, the Army withdrew its armored units from street patrol and formed a protective barrier around President Mubarak and Egypt's key television station in Cairo. It now appears the army is unwilling to enforce martial law upon the citizens.

On Friday in Egypt, the ultra-radical Muslim Brotherhood joined in the protests as hundreds of thousands of Egyptians took to the streets all across Egypt.

We now wait to see whether the riots turn into a full-blown regime change in Egypt. Even so, the winds of change are sweeing across the entire Middle East. Our coverage of Arab world unrest begins with news articles shown below for not just Egypt but other Arab nations also.
