2010: Prophetic Year in Review
The Alpha-Omega Report’s
Year in Review for 2010
The Top Prophetic News Developments
1-1-11
In looking back at the just ended year 2010, it may not seem like it would have been a very significant year, but as we had predicted, going into the year, 2010 seems to have lived up to our expectations that 2010 would be a “pivotal” year. By the term “pivotal” we meant that it would be a turning point year, much like a making a turn on an oval race track moving into a large turn 3 corner and exiting out the ‘short-chute’ towards Turn 4.
As we move further into future events of the next year or two, we may be able to look back and realize that 2010 not only took us into and through turn 3 on the race track but also going into turn 4, with perhaps 2011 taking us through turn 4 and heading down the main straight away towards the start-finish line which would commence with the finish of a racing lap around the track. What that would mean prophetically is hard to calculate in our metaphor, but that start-finish line could represent the start of the prophetic seven years of the “Tribulation Period.” Of course that assumes that our interpretations of a 7 year Tribulation Period is accurate instead of the alternate theory of a 3.5 year period.
It is still too early to be able realize exactly where we are at on God’s prophetic time line for the future, but 2010 was a year for a turning shift – turning the human race through a corner that seems to still need another left turn corner to reach the straight away and the start-finish line, which we think will be the initiating point for a one world, global government. It could happen in 2011, but I think 2011 will simply take us through turn 4 with 2012 being the start-finish line for the start of a global government and perhaps a great world dictator.
But, alas, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. For now we want to take a look back at the year 2010 and review the “SIGNIFICANT” prophetic developments which occurred in 2010.
Before we begin noting what we think were the significant prophetic developments for 2010, let’s look at the year from a ‘mainstream news media perspective. The Associated Press Newswire Service compiles a list of the Top 10 news stories of the year and for 2010 here is their list for the Top 10 news stories of 2010. The Alpha-Omega Report's
Top 25 Middle East Developments
#1. Obama Proposes 7 year interim peace accord
As part of an effort to break the stalled peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, President Obama proposed an interim peace agreement that would run for 7 years with continuing options for renewals for 100 years. Despite frantic efforts from the White House and State Department, no deal was ever struck and negotiations broke off in the fall of 2010. This proposal is a novel idea that some Bible Prophecy commentators theorize connect to Daniel 9:27 as the agreement which the Antichrist brokers for Israel.
#2. Obama’s Israeli-Palestinian Peace Talks fail
As noted in the above citation, the peace negotiations failed in the fall of 2010. Efforts to revive the talks continued til the end of 2010, but without success.
#3. Diplomatic Fight for Authority over Jerusalem
One of the primary factors which prevented an agreement during peace negotiations was the status over Jerusalem. The Palestinians want the entire city back and the right to name Jerusalem as the capital of their new nation. Israel rejects the idea and so far, Prime Minister Netanyahu refuses to relinquish even part of the city to Palestinian control and will not accept the idea that even a part of Jerusalem could become a capital for a future Palestine.
#4. Obama’s abuse of Israel
In an effort to force peace talks and a peace agreement, President Obama spent much of 2010 using arm-twisting tactics behind closed doors with Israeli leaders. This included snubbing Prime Minister Netanyahu early in the year during his visit to the White House late in the day. He met for a few minutes with President Obama who gave Netanyahu a folder of demands from the White House. The President then abruptly excused himself for dinner in the family quarters and left the Israeli leader alone for an hour before returning with a demand that Netanyahu agree the written demands. It was just one of many instances where the White House thoroughly snubbed and abused Israeli leaders visiting Washington. For more instances, see #5.
#5. Obama’s Intervention to Prevent Israeli Strikes on Iran
This is a subject that we reported on extensively in our donor's section - The A-O Insider Report - mostly in the A-O Intelligence Digest weekly reports,
We reported that in February and again in March, according to various leaks and intelligence reports, the White House intervened at the very last moment to stop Israeli air strikes being readied at Israeli air bases for attacks against Iranian nuclear facilities. Not content with the idea of phone conversations to persuade the Israeli leadership to halt their plans, the White House sent Vice President Joe Biden to Israel for consultations in which Biden carried orders from the President demanding Israel cancel its strike plans at the last moment. To secure the cancellations, the President threatened major reprisals against Israel should the strikes proceed.
A similar scenario developed again in March and the White House sent Admiral Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to deliver yet a similar message and threats just hours before strikes were to be launched. Once again, Israeli leaders acquiesced at the last moment. It is believed a similar scenario was about to emerge in April but for yet a third time, Israel relented amid not only new threats but apparently also the unveiling of a plan to wage a covert war against Iran using a variety of means, including cyber-warfare, as well as covert assassination operations and working with dissident insurgent groups inside Iran as part of a bid to overthrow the Ayatollah regime.
#6. Iran’s Nuclear Weapons Program Continues
Iran continued its march towards the ability to build nuclear weapons throughout the year, however by August, technical problems emerged to stall progress even as Iran postured in diplomatic negotiations with the U.N. Security Council and Western nations.
#7. Cyber War on Iran – Stuxnet
We've covered this topic extensively in our donor's section in The A-O Intelligence Digest -- that in August, the covert war against Iran saw fruition when a computer worm virus named Stuxnet made its presence known in Iranian computers at nuclear and military facilities around the country. No one has stepped forward to take credit for the cyber attack, but it is now widely believed, and particularly inside the Iranian regime, that the U.S., Israel and Britain had joined together to create the computer virus and unleash it within the Iranian government's computers, particularly computers in the defense and nuclear programs.
The virus has had a remarkable effect in virtually shutting down Iran's uranium enrichment program, its missile warhead development program, its air defenses, as well as Iran's communications programs. The bug continues to periodically re-emerge even to the end of the year. Iran has resorted to throwing away every computer and buying new hardware and software, causing extensive delays. Iran is now seeking alternative means to achieve its goal of becoming a nuclear power.
#8. Clandestine attack on Iran missile base
As we've reported extensively in our donor's section and our A-O Intelligence Digest reports we've note that - In October, Iran reported that a series of explosions at a missile base in the Zagros Mountains had killed 16 Iranian soldiers and technicians. The base was a production factory and warehouse for many of its modern Shehab-3 ballistic missiles, which are now the backbone of Iran's retaliatory capabilities. These missiles are capable of being fitted with nuclear warheads and carry a range able to reach all of Israel as well as most of the Middle East.
Iran remains tight-lipped about the extent of the damage caused by the mysterious explosions. Various intelligence reports range the damage from the loss of a few missiles and scientists to wiping out almost all of Iran's Shehab-3 missile inventory. Intelligence reports also speculate on the cause of the blasts. Officially, Iran claimed the blasts were accidental to fires triggered by electrical shorts that reached ammunition bunkers. Later there were insinuations that insurgent rebel ethnic forces may have been responsible. Some intelligence reports claim that Iranian insider sources have quoted some Iranian investigators as thinking the base was attacked by U.S. Navy cruise missiles or some sort of space-based laser-type system. Other speculative theories suggested that once again the Stuxnet computer worm had struck again causing an electrical fire that then triggered the explosions. Still other theories abound that the cause was due to Special Forces commandos infiltrating the base and set off explosive charges.
Since the blasts, Iran has negotiated with North Korea to purchase more advanced ballistic missiles with solid fuel propulsion, larger warhead capacity and longer ranges than anything Iran presently has developed. See #12 for more on this aspect.
#9. Assassination of 5 Iranian Nuclear Scientists
During the year, 5 of Iran's top nuclear scientists were killed either by ethnic insurgent terrorists or by covert operatives from the U.S. or Israel or Britain. The deaths of these scientists along with the defections of other Iranian scientists has had a dramatic effect in slowing down Iran's nuclear program since August.
#10. Turkey Moves to Align with Magog-Iran
In the wake of Islamic Fundamentalists consolidating their hold on the reins of power in Turkey, the radical fundamentalist leadership, led by both the Prime Minister and President of Turkey forged new ties with Iran including new military defense agreements. Both nations have also taken in new economic trading programs and Turkish leaders have helped to provide diplomatic cover for Iran, particularly aiding Iran in its quest for nuclear weapons. Turkish relations with Israel, which had once almost been allied with Israel seriously deteriorated during 2010.
#11. Russia Moves To Align with Israel as an Ally
As we've reported in our recent A-O Intelligence Digest reports: In the last two months of 2010, Russia has taken steps to develop a closer working relationship with Israel and Israel's defense manufacturing industry. The Russians are purchasing state-of-the-art unmanned aerial drones made by Israel. Russia also canceled the sale of its S-300 air defense systems to Iran and in December, Russia has made overtures to form a partnership with Israel to develop its newly discovered, off-shore, natural gas fields in the Mediterranean Sea along the Israeli coastline.
Diplomatic sources report that part of the reason for Russia's new interest in an alliance with Israel is based in part on a new awareness that Iran is indeed working to attain nuclear weapons capability. Whether this is true or just a smokescreen, remains to be seen. There are unconfirmed reports that Russian President Medvedev will travel to Israel in January for meetings with Israeli leaders to discuss trade and defense agreements in an effort to exploit souring relations between America and Israel.
#12. North Korea’s Nuke & Missile Assistance To Iran
In the wake of Iranian setbacks in its ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs, intelligence reports indicate that Iran is now actively engaged in circumventing its technical problems with its nuclear weapons program and its ballistic missile programs by going to North Korea and purchasing the necessary components needed to build nuclear missile warheads and replace the Shehab-3 missiles destroyed in October of 2010. See our #8 story.
Much of this shift is due to not only the explosions at a Shehab-3 missile base but also due to the assassinations of Iran's top nuclear scientists as well as the carnage inflicted by the Stuxnet computer worm virus. Reports indicate that Iran has tried to replace all of its computer hardware and software repeatedly, only to have the virus re-emerge from hiding.
As a result of these problems, Iranian leaders, are scrambling to stick to a timetable for the acquisition of nuclear weapons and appropriate delivery systems.
There are unconfirmed, intelligence reports indicating that Iran has purchased nuclear warhead components from North Korea as well as two dozen advanced ballistic missiles with a range of nearly 3,000 kilometers and heavy warhead capacity. Late intelligence reports indicate that North Korean and Iranian scientists are working together to explode Iran's first atomic bomb in a test expected to be conducted within a matter of weeks in 2011.
The recent artillery barrage by North Korea against a South Korean island near the DMZ was alleged to have been part of a diversion to enable at least one or more North Korean freighters to sail unnoticed out of North Korea destined for Iran. The shipments included vital missile warhead components for mounting nuclear weapons atop new North Korean missiles which Iran has agreed to purchase.
We had one report indicating that two additional freighters loaded with the advanced ballistic missiles had also left North Korea for Iran and Venezuela. This is due to press reports that Venezuela and Iran have agreed to an alliance in which Venezuela will host an Iranian missile base in Venezuela. According to intelligence reports the Iranians will transfer 12 of its newly aquired 3,000 kilometer range North Korean missiles to a new Venezuelan base set aside to host the missiles. Both nations will be able to use the missiles against the continental United States if attacked by the United States. It is unknown as to how soon the missiles could become operational, but it seems that at some point in 2011 the missiles could be operational.
The remaining dozen missiles would be used to target Israel and perhaps other targets in Europe and India.
There are new reports indicating that the White House is now considering what type of response it will take as the threat advances towards becoming operational. There are counter-reports indicating that the missiles themselves and nuclear warheads remain inside North Korea and have not yet been shipped. We'll be focusing more on this developing story in our donor's section and our A-O Intelligence Digest reports including additional information in our next Digest edition.
#13. Lebanon’s Battle Against Hezbollah & Iran
The Lebanese government managed to avoid a takeover in late 2010 mostly due to intercession by Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah who introduced an accord which Syria initially approved and agreed upon. Syria agreed to hold back Hezbollah from any attacks upon Israel or the Lebanese government in exchange for the UN investigation not handing down indictments against Syrian leadership for the 2005 assassination of Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri. In addition. Syria would rein in Hamas leaders now exiled to Damascus and prevent them from participating in any retaliation attacks against Israel for military action by Israel and against Iran.
In fact, the Saudi proposals were introduced at a time in which Iranian leaders were debating on the idea of launching military strikes against Israel in retaliation for the Stuxnet virus and the recent assassination of Iran's top nuclear scientist.
No sooner had the Saudi proposals been agreed to by Syria, when the news emerged that Saudi King Abdullah's health was threatened as he traveled to America for major back surgery. The concern about who would succeed the King prompted Syria to backtrack on its agreement, at least for the time being. As a result, Hamas was re-emerged with a limited campaign of launching small rocket attacks into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip. Even so, the Lebanese government remains in power for the time being, but its continued existence remains in doubt as the new year emerges.
#14. Saudi Arabia Acquires Nuclear Weapons from Pakistan
In a recent A-O Intelligence Digest edition, posted to our donor's section, we reported that intelligence sources were indicating that Saudi Arabia had purchased two ballistic missiles with matching nuclear warheads. There are conflicting claims in those various reports. One report claims the missiles have already been shipped to Saudi Arabia and are being held at a secret, underground air base in the Saudi desert region. The matching warheads remain in Pakistan with Saudi and Pakistani guards providing massive security protection. Another report however indicates that nothing has yet been shipped to Saudi Arabia. We'll be providing more information on this developing story in our donor's section within the A-O Intelligence Digest reports.
#15. Syria Refuses To Support its Defense Agreements with Iran.
Among the many U.S. State Department cable-grams leaked by Wikileaks publication, is the report that according to US State Department cable-grams. in late 2009, Syria refused to join Iran in counter-attacking Israel in the event that Israel conducted air strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities. The Syrian change of heart came amid Iranian intelligence reports expecting Israeli air strikes to be conducted early in 2010. As 2010 continued to unfold, its unclear as to whether or not Syria retained its position of non-interference in the Israeli-Iranian dispute over Iran's nuclear program.
The Syrian decision and response to Iran came shortly after Israel secretly informed Syria that in the event of Syrian involvement in counter attacks with Iran against Israel after any Israeli military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, Israel would not hesitate to use nuclear weapons against Damascus, particularly if Syria's counter-attack strategy included the use of chemical or biological warfare. Syria had reportedly been preparing to use such weapons in the event of an outbreak in hostilities. The Israeli warning was apparently stern enough to convince Syrian President Assad to back away from his defense commitment with Iran, at least for the time being.
#16. Jordan Makes Tentative Moves to Align with Iran
As we recently reported in our A-O Intelligence Digest found in our donor's section of the website, Jordan's King Abdullah made a trip to Tehran in December in an effort to avoid becoming an enemy target of Iran. The King reportedly made tentative support for Iran in its efforts to deal with Israel. The Jordanian King is desperate to retain power, fearing that Iran would start an insurgency to overthrow his government and replace it with a more radical, militant Muslim faction, which his government now holds in check.
#17. Iran Solidifies Influence over Iraq
The Iraqi political squabbling that prevented the formation of a new government, 9 months after elections were held finally ended in December. Prime Minister al- Maliki has managed hang on to his Prime Ministers post, thanks in part to Iranian intervention which ordered the Shiite militias to back the Prime Minister. Iran now has a firm grip set in place to create a puppet government in Iraq, once the 50,000 U.S. troops leave Iraq at the end of 2011, assuming of course those forces do actually leave. Iran intends to make Iraq a puppet state much like it has with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
.
#18. Attempt to Bust Israel’s Embargo on the Gaza Strip
If you will recall, in late spring, Turkey, Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran attempted to break the Israeli naval blockade of the Gaza Strip by sending civilian cargo ships loaded with civilian goods to Gaza. Israel's navy intercepted the effort and halted the attempt but at great diplomatic cost. Turkey responded by curtailing its diplomatic friendliness with Israel and halting any further military cooperation between the two nations.
#19. Russia Denies S-300 Air Defense Sale to Iran – Begins Pulling Away from Iran
Russia finally pulled the plug on the proposed sale of the S=300 air defense missile systems that was initially agreed upon with Iran several years earlier. The Russians finally made the decision public late in the year as Russian leaders finally came to the conclusion that Iran does intend to become a nuclear power and that Russia could become a target of Iranian nuclear weapons. On the flip side though, Russia did agree to sell those systems to Venezuela, which has since announced new military ties with Iran, including a join ballistic missile base to be established in Venezuela.
#20. Israel Discovers Huge Natural Gas Deposits Offshore
As the year 2010 came to a close, the Israeli government finally confirmed the extent of the size of a second natural gas field discovered off the coast of Israel in the Mediterranean Sea. The second gas field combined with the discovery earlier in the year of another natural gas field means that Israel will no longer be energy dependent on another nation. In addition to the gas disoveries, modest oil deposits were discovered which will meet Israel's own needs. The natural gas fields are however another story. The gas fields will sustain Israel's energy needs for natural gas for 100 years plus provide extensive extra supply to sell on the global markets for decades to come. Suddenly Israel becomes a large net exporter of natural gas and a competitor to Russia and Iran for customers in both Europe, Asia and Africa. Russia has expressed an interest in joining forces with Israel in a joint venture to develop the gas fields and bring the supply to world markets.
As the news of the gas discoveries took hold, Palestinians are demanding that they own rights to the gas field along Israel's southern coastline. Palestinian leaders vow to make the gas fields part of negotiations for any peace agreement.
At the same time, Lebanon and Syria are now complaining that they own part of that same gas field believing that the northern gas field extends along to their coastlines also. There are indications that the Syrians especially will not sit still for Israel grabbing what they believe to be their rightful share to the gas. At the same time Russia has stepped in and offered to assist Syria, Lebanon and Turkey in conducting explorations along their coastlines.
This natural gas discovery could become a major catalyst for the Magog War prophesied by Ezekiel in chapters 38 and 39. This is particularly note worthy considering one statement made by Ezekiel when he notes that the world's onlookers ask Magog as the invasion is launched against Israel from Israel's northern border when they ask Magog: "Have you come to take a spoil?" The natural gas discovery may well be a medium level prophetic fulfillment pre-cursor.
#21. US Combat Troops Pullout of Iraq – 50,000 Remain
2010 was the year when the U.S. government declared that it had pulled out all American combat forces in Iraq, leaving only 50,000 troops left to train Iraq's new army and to provide defense protection against invasion by outside forces (read, Iran). The remaining 50,000 troops are scheduled to be pulled out by the end of 2011, however many analysts believe this will not - repeat - NOT happen, despite Obama's claims to the contrary.
#22. Decline in Health of Saudi Arabia’s King
As we noted in an earlier section, Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah's health is deteriorating and concerns now mount that the 87 year old monarch may become either incapacitated and unable to lead the nation or that he will soon die. The King flew to America in early December for a complicated back operation and complications developed after surgery. The king did leave the hospital shortly before Christmas but remains in a swank New York City hotel as he undergoes out-patient rehabilitation therapy before returning to Saudi Arabia in the near future.
#23. Egypt’s President Terminal Illness Sets Stage for Regime Change
There is a changing of the guard in the Egyptian government. Longtime President Hosni Mubarak has terminal cancer and is not expected to live much longer. In 2010, he attempted to secure his son to be his successor, but his best laid plans ran amuck. Mubarak's wife decided she could handle the job and is jockeying for the power. Mubarak's second in command, his Intelligence Minister has now decided he wants the job and so there has been a batlle for succession that began late in 2010 and will continue into early 2011.
#24. Afghanistan War Effort Falters for U.S. & NATO
At the urging of the Pentagon and Republican lawmakers, President Obama ordered a surge of US troops into Afghanistan but the resilient Taliban continues to make inroads and hold its own, awaiting the troop withdrawal deadline set for 2011 of the surge forces. Many military analysts believe tho outlook for victory in Afghanistan is bleak.
#25. Iran Secretly Aids Taliban and Al Qaeda
As part of an Iranian effort to retaliate against what it believes to be a covert war being waged by the U.S., Britain and Israel, Iran has begun to provide military aid to the Taliban effort in the Afghanistan war. Iran is also providing aid and consulting now with Al Qaeda elements in Pakistan to wage war against the U.S. and NATO forces. Iran is also working with Al Qaeda forces on the Arabian Peninsula to battle against U.S. and Saudi Arabian forces in another covert war of sorts.
