(A-O Newswire) -- The History Channel Television Network will air a 2 hour special show on March 30 at 9 pm (Eastern Time Zone) that will no doubt attract record ratings. The History Channel will present a two hour documentary on The Shroud of Turin focusing on research that uses new computer analysis techniques to draw out the image on the Shroud and give the image a 3-D quality.
The world will have an extraordinary opportunity to look upon what may be an undistorted, never-before-seen, moving 3-D portrait of a man who many think may be the crucified Jesus Christ. In the documentary, graphic experts will bring to life an imprint on the holy relic known as the Shroud of Turin, believed by millions to be the burial shroud of Christ
The Shroud of Turin bears the full-body, back-and-front image of a crucified man that is said to closely resemble the New Testament description of the passion and death of Christ. According to Shroud researchers, the crucifed man was 5 feet, 8 inches tall. He did not have blond hair or blue eyes but did have a dark skin tone and was not "Hollywood-style movie handsome."
A computer graphics artist, Ray Downing of Studio Macbeth is responsible for the research project featured by the History Channel's show. Downing used today's most sophisticated electronic tools and software in a yearlong effort to recreate the face imprint on the Shroud of Turin.
"The presence of 3-D information encoded in a 2-D image is quite unexpected, as well as unique," Downing said. "It is as if there is an instruction set inside a picture for building a sculpture."
"It's so unusual to find this kind of information – in ancient cloths, photographs, paintings, drawings and etchings – it's so unusual that some think it's a miracle and some doubt it's even there," he said. "The people who say it's not there haven't examined it for themselves. Disbelievers disbelieve it. Believers think it's a miracle "
"There comes a time in the show where there's a climax where we actually reveal the face of Jesus," he explained. "What you'll see is a very, very close shot of Jesus in the tomb, and then he comes to life."
The Catholic Church of Turin will once again exhibit the Shroud to the public this Spring for only the fifth time since 1898. It will also be the longest exposition to the public since 1898. The Shroud will be on exhibit for 43 days from April 10 through May 23. The Pope will visit the Shroud on May 2.
A WorldNetDaily article on the Shroud's exhibition, includes comments from the man who headed up a 1978 science team that inspected the Shroud and conducted scientific tests. In an interview with WND, John Jackson of the University of Colorado states that the Shroud's weaving pattern, a unique herringbone pattern, suggests that it was made to be a tablecloth. He speculates that it might have been the tablecloth of the Last Supper.
Scientists who conducted radio carbon testing on the Shroud in the 1980s concluded that the Shroud was a Medieval-era creation and was only 1,000 years old, but other scientists have now proven that the sample used was actually a patch from that period and not part of the original cloth. The Shroud was patched with re-weaving techniques after a fire damaged the relic nearly a thousand years ago. Some scientists now concede that the Shroud may indeed be far older than 1,000 A.D.
Ray Downing, of Studio Macbeth has indicated in publicity releases and interviews that the end of the 2 hour documentary will reveal stunning information about not only the new 3-D image, but also of how the image appeared on the Shroud and that will explain (perhaps?) the Resurrection, itself. He claims that his technique of computer imaging actually uncovered what substance created the image and thus enabled him to see for the first time since The Crucifixion, the actual face of Jesus. Downing went on to add:
"I will reveal at the end of the show the type of event that must have occurred 2,000 years ago" to create the image on the Shroud.
It would seem to us, here at The Alpha-Omega Report - that this is a "MUST SEE" television show for America to see. For our international friends, we're not sure of your availability to see this program unless you have satellite access. We would suspect, however, that it will be shown around the world, eventually, perhaps on the History International Channel.
