Editor's Note: This past week we posted daily news updates as Mideast War Watch for news out of the Mideast concerning the potential outbreak for hostilities in the region. Therefore, today's Mideast News Spotlight only picks up additional news from Friday through this weekend. For the rest of the week's news out of the Mideast, see each day's Watch page. We'd gone to a daily coverage based largely upon warning comments made by Iranian leaders about February 11 delivering a "punch" that would stun the Western nations. It turns out that their "punch" was their claim that they are now a "Nuclear Nation." because they've enriched a tiny amount of uranium to a 20% level. Even though no fighting broke out, tensions in the region remain heightened especially on both sides of Israel's northern border and now also along Israel's border with the Gaza Strip.

For Talks With Medvedev
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Moscow on Sunday for talks with Presdietn Medvedev concerning Iran. Russia has been signaling its reluctant agreement to join in teh call for sanctions against Iran.
There had been speculation that the Prime Minister's trip might be to inform the Russians that Israel was ready to launch military strikes against Iran if sanctions were not imposed. This visit is the Prime Minister's first "official" visit to Russia since becoming Prime Minister last year, although he did make a "secret" visit last October.

Sale of S-300 Air Defenses To Iran
Just before Israeli Prime MInister Netanyahu's jetliner departed Israel for Moscoe, the Russian government announced that there was no reason for Russia to further delay the sale of arms to Iran, including the S-300 air-defense systems. The announcement came as Russian security officials expresssed dismay with Israel's sale of weapons to Moscow's neighbor, Georgia. It is thought the remarks about the S-300 sale to Iran was tied directly to Russian displeasure at Israel's decision to sell arms to Georgia.

Several international networks have said that Iran is disrupting their Farsi-language satellite transmissions, Israel Radio reported Friday.
BBC Radio, The Voice of America and the German network Deutsche Welle defined the interference as electronic disturbances from Iran.
The report said that the regime began to disrupt the transmissions on Thursday with the beginning of celebrations on the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Israel Capable of Striking Iran's Nukes
As talk of an impending Israeli military strike continues to circulate in Israel, former Israeli Air Force General and Chief of Staff, General Dan Halutz warned Israelis this weekend that he doubts Israel could successfully damage Iran's nuclear facilities. He also warns that Israel should not try to make such an effort.
Halutz stated:
"We are taking upon ourselves a task that is bigger than us. "I think that the State of Israel should not take it upon itself to be the flag-bearer of the entire Western world in the face of the Iranian threat. I'm not some passer-by ... I've filled a few positions that give me a different level of information to the average person."
Halutz' remarks came during a television news interview with Israel's Channel Two television. Halutz was forced to resign his position as Israel's top general in 2007, after being accused of mismanaging Israel's war effort in the Summer War of 2006 with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
This general's statement strongly suggests that Israel's PR department is now in "disinformation mode" to mislead the Iranians into letting down their guard. It also suggusts that Israel is prepared to continue the waiting game and wait for Iran to make the next move.
