War Signals Flashing in Mideast

-
Editor's Note: Our latest A-O Intelligence Digest contains a lot more details and developments now transpiring behind the scenes suggesting Iran and Israel are moving towards a military showdown. This includes intelligence reports that Iran has already conducted one War Council last week, with another scheduled for this week. It is entirely possible the Mideast could become engulfed in war, in the next few months and perhaps as early as sometime this month or even within the next few days. The situation is very tense, especially inside Iran's inner circle of paranoid leadership. We'll be standing by at A-O closely watching for developments and posting updates as needed, although for the moment, we've decided NOT to move to a "Yellow Alert" status, at least not yet. The news stories below help provide A-O readers with a sense of mainstream media news reports pointing towadrs potential conflict in the near future.

VP Biden Says:
US Can't Stop Israel Strike on Iran
US Won't Stop Israel From Iran Strike
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden revealed Sunday that the United States will not try to stop Israel from conducting military action against Iran's nuclear facilities if Israel believes it is the only way to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power.
Biden's comments came during a televised appearance on ABC-TV's Sunday morning talk show - "This Week." Biden stated that the U.S. "cannot dictate to another nation what they can and cannot do." The Vice President added that Israel can determine for itself, "whats in their interest and what they decide to do relative to Iran and anyone else." Biden also noted that the interests of the U.S. are also the interests of Israel and "the whole world." He further elaborated by saying:
"If the Netanyahu government decides to take a course of action different than the one being pursued now, that is their sovereign right to do that. That is not our choice,"
The Vice President refused to speculate on whether or not the White House might permit Israeli overflights of Iraqi air space as part of a strike route corridor. For more on this story, LINK HERE. US Commander Says:
Iran Still Supports Iraqi Terror
The US commanding general in Iraq, Ray Odierno says that Iran continues to interfere in Iraq, supporting indirect attacks against US forces, The general noted that most of the Iranian-backed violence was "indirect fire" -- a term meaning attacks from mortars, rockets, artillery and roaside bombs.
The general note that groups supported by Iran were in involved in recent rocket attacks against the cordoned off "Green Zone" in central Baghdad.
Various intelligence analysts believe that the recent uptick in Iraqi terror is related to the turmoil inside Iran, following Iran's presidential elections. US forces are now pulling out of urban peace-keeping roles and shifting to merely training Iraqi forces and providing back-up support as needed. More details, LINK HERE.

Israel Considers Home Built Warships
Israel's navy is considering the possibility of building its own warships instead of buying them from the U.S. or Germany. In recent years, Israel has contracted with Germany to build 5 dolphin-class submarines, 3 of which are now operational. The Israelis had contemplated buying 2 high-tech missile boats from the United States but the high price tag is causing Israel to re-evaluate its entire naval building program.
Israeli officials are now considering the idea of having a German company design 2 missile warships and then having those ships built at the Israeli port of Haifa. For more details on this story, LINK HERE.

Egypt Interested in Anti-Missile Defense
Egypt has expressed an interest in purchasing Russia's most advanced anti-missile defense system, the S-400 as a possible defense against an Iranian missile attack. Relations between the two nations have become nearly hostile in the past few years. Iran has financed Egyptian insurgents seeking to overthrow the Egyptian government. In response, Egypt has entered into a defacto military alliance with Israel and Saudi Arabia to counter the Iranian threat.
With Iran now developing long-range missiles capable of hitting most of Europe as well as ICBM capability in the coming years, Egypt fears that someday it might face a missile strike or even a nuclear missile strike. Consequently, the Egyptian government is contemplating the possibility of acquiring Russia's anti-missile defense systems. For more on this story, LINK HERE.
