Editor's Note: This is an addendum to the Weekly News Round Up of 2-28-9. Normally we post a round up on Sunday but due to the A-O Chat Room conference for February 28, we rushed the Round Up to Saturday. In doing so, more news developed later Saturday and into Sunday that I felt was important enough to post now and now wait another week.

UN Assassination Tribunal Begins
The UN Tribunal to prosecute conspirators involved in the February, 2005 assassination of Lebanon's Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri was inaugurated Sunday, March 1 at the Hague. UN special Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare announced his intention to ask Lebanon to hand over four pro-Syrian generals held in connection with the assassination. No specific date for the court's first trial has been announced.
Syrian President Assad is concerned that evidence will link him to the crime and that could result in a warrant for his arrest that could trigger a war. Assad has no intention of resigning to face charges. Barring a coup, Assad intends to remain in office at whatever cost is necessary, including war. In the last few days, concerns have mounted that Assad will trigger some sort of international incident on the border with Israel as a diversion from the Tribunal. Syria's military is now on a heightened state of alert as is Israel.

10 Rockets Hit Israel Saturday
110 Since the Gaza War
Israeli PM Warns "Harsh" Retaliation
Israeli Prime Minister Olmert warned Hamas on Sunday of "harsh" retaliation for any future rocket attacks on Israel. 10 more rockets struck Israel on Saturday bringing the total of rockets fired at Israel since the Gaza war ended to 110 rocket strikes. Just hours after Olmert's warning another rocket struck Ashkelon on Sunday.
Israel is clearly growing impatient with the continuing rocket campaign after investing 22 days of intense fighting in Gaza that was supposed to put an end to rocket attacks. The arranged truce has clearly failed to halt the rocket strikes and Israeli leaders are prepared to respond with an escalation of the conflict.
