Editor's Note: The YELLOW ALERT will remain in effect for another 24 hour period to see what may further develop, if anything. The next A-O Intelligence Digest will provide additional insights on the current situation in Gaza as well as Iran's role and the situation within the Iranian leadership. There are new indications that despite my own New Year's predictions that the NWO would not permit a major outbreak of war, recent comments and developments may suggest otherwise.

Gaza Truce Teeters On Brink

(A-O Newswire) The Gaza War truce appears to be coming apart at the seams 11 days after the formal fighting stopped on January 18. For 9 days Gaza had a reprieve from military action, but that changed on Tuesday, January 27. Late Tuesday afternoon, an Israeli border patrol was subjected to a what was first characterized by a roadside bombing, but later reports indicate a Hamas rifle squad may have used a rocket-propelled grenade (rpg) to kill one Israeli soldier and wound three others. We do know a roadside bomb was involved and a firefight ensued shortly thereafter with several Palestinians involved, but one in particular who used a motorcycle to escape from IDF troops called in to the area.
After darkness fell, the Israeli Air Force launched a pair of air strikes along the Gaza border with Egypt, targeting Hamas tunnels. There has been no word on how many tunnels were damaged or destroyed from those air strikes.
Early Wednesday morning, Palestinians launched at least one and perhaps a second Kassam (Qassam) rocket(s) which fell harmlessly in the Negev desert inside Israeli territory. The rocket attack was a payback for the Israeli air strike, which itself was a payback for the roadside bombing attack.
Israel responded to the rocket attack several hours later on Wednesday evening, with yet more air strikes including a target that Israeli forces believe was a weapon manufacturing facility in Rafah.
After daybreak on Thursday, Palestinians once again fired 2 Kassam (Qassam) rockets towards the Israeli town of Sderot according to some Israeli sources, although mainstream Israeli media only mentions one rocket which struck the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council area in Sderot.
If indeed there was a second rocket it must have fallen harmlessly in the Negev desert near Sderot. Israel has not yet responded to the latest rocket attacks – as of early Friday morning, though Israeli leaders warned that further strikes were likely.
In response to the Hamas rocket attacks, Israeli leaders announced that every violation of the cease fire will be met with retaliation by Israeli forces. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni made Israel’s new policy abundantly clear to President Obama’s Peace Envoy, George Mitchell. The president’s peace negotiator arrived in Israel on Wednesday to begin laying the framework for new peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. Mitchell’s arrival comes as Hamas and Israel appear to be playing a tit-for-tat reprisal game that threatens to escalate into full-blown combat once again.
Mitchell’s task to negotiate peace is ultimately doomed to failure as Israeli general elections loom 2 weeks from now. The more conservative Likud Party appears to be in the driver’s seat for forming a new, more conservative coalition government.
Should Likud win, as it now seems likely, Benjamin Netanyahu will once again become Prime Minister. Netanyahu stated yesterday that if elected, he will finish the Gaza operation that was started back in late December. He will make sure that Gaza is no longer a haven for terrorists. His statements suggest that he would waste no time in ending the cease fire and wage total war on Hamas.
