(A-O Newswire) -- The Israeli Security Cabinet voted in favor of a cease fire in the Gaza Strip, which would end a three-week military operation against the Hamas regime in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced on Saturday that Israel's operation, "Cast Lead" had achieved all of its objectives.
Olmert, made the announcment at a news conference after the cabinet vote. He stated that some of the IDF goals had been exceeded.
Meanwhile, in Egypt, President Mubarak is preparing to host an international peace summit with leaders from several European nations invited to attend. French President Sarkozy will be attending along with Germany's Chancellor Merkel. Britain's Prime Minister Brown has been invited but there has been no confirmation from London that Brown will be able to attend.
