Obama Faces Corruption Scrutiny

Amidst Illinois Corruption Charges

(A-O Newswire) -- Even before taking the oath of office, President-elect Obama faces media scrutiny over his connections to corrupt Illinois politicians whom he worked with for many years before running for the White House.

New concerns are being raised within the conservative media reporters such as the Chicago Tribune and the  FOX TV News Channel's talking heads.

The controversy has been raised in the wake of allegations and the arrest of the Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich for corruption charges. Among the charges leveled against the Governor was his attempt to "sell" the Senate seat being vacated by President-elect Obama. The FBI ran a series of ongoing phone-wire taps on the Governor's conversations which included discussions on selling the seat to the highest bidder.

The Federal investigators stress that they have no evidence the President-elect had any knowledge of the Governor's illegal activities. The Federal charges of corruption have been leveled only against the Governor and his chief of staff and investigator's stress they have yet to find any others invovled in illegal activities.

Despite the assertions of federal authorities that so far no one else is involved in illegal activities, investigative news reporters at the Chicago Tribune are raising concerns that perhaps Obama and many of his new administration staff from Illnois have been involved in previous corruption incidents. One particular staff member cited by some reporters is Obama's new White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel who was a Chicago-area, Illinois Congressman until the election of Obama. Investigative reporters suspect that Rahm Emanuel may have been neck-deep in other corruption cases so typical of Chicago-land and Illnois politics.

Emanuel is not alone in facing media scrutiny. Obama's campaing manager David Axelrod was at one time a sfaff member to Illinois Governor Blagojevich and had worked his way through the ranks of the notoriously corrupt Chicago city government's political system and its Democratic party political machine.

Other Obama staff members from Illinois with ties to the Governor and Chicago-land politics are coming under suspicion from some investigative reporters and media talking heads. Whether anything will come of these suspicions and allegations, remains to be seen, but at this point, it would seem that such media talk will be short-lived and suspicions swept under the rug, unless hard evidence is quicky uncovered.
