Appearing on Russiant television, Tuesday, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev announced that he was ordering the Russian military to halt offensive combat against Georgian forces and halt the advance on Georgia's capital city of T'bilisi. According to Russian reports, the President stated that Russia had punished Georgia and restored security for civilians and Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia. The new orders also state that any armed resistance by Georgian forces is to be squashed.
In a related development, Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow will not negotiate with Georgia's President Saakashvili and stated that Saakashvili "better go."
These developments came about as French President Nicolas Sarkozy was flying enroute to Moscow to negotiate a truce to halt the conflict over the breakaway province of South Ossetia. Story LINK HERE.
