From the Publisher's Desk...

Updated 10-11-10

-

Our website software upgrade work continues but at a slower than expected pace. We are still without our Email News Alerts service as we do not have new Email service software compatible with the new internet protocol standards. We are hoping and anticipating that we will be finally finished and upgraded in the next 24 to 48 hours, but there are no guarantees as we're working on a shoe string budget with mostly volunteer or mostly free-gratis assistance from our Tech support team and one member of the team is not in the best of health but doing their utmost to get us back to normal as soon as possible. We will continue to post news and articles as this process allows. Meanwhile, our September overdue bills are taken care of but now we've missed one invoice, now overdue and another on the 15th so we're close to being back in the same "cut-off crisis" that we were at the end of last month. So donations are still needed to keep us functioning.

Good News on Finances

This is just a short update to let our readers know that we've now received enough donations to cover last month's overdue bills. We are cleared to remain alive and publishing for October, BUT - we now have regular monthly bills for October coming due by the 10th and 15th so we do need donations to continue to cover this month and avoid a crisis at the end of the month. If you can help with a donation this month please visit our Donations Page LINK HERE for details on donating online via Paypal or by personal check via the mail.

Website Technical Problems & Changes

As we noted in our previous, publisher's update - our E-mail News Alert subscription service, which is a free service to any and all has been temporarily shut down due to a need for technical upgrades to the website software. Due to a lack of donation funds in the past, we have never been able to make the necessary upgrades as new technology and software development warranted. In mid-September, our Email Alert software became inoperable due to incompatibility issues. Our outgoing port numbe was no longer recognized by new server software. We'd thought that number could be modified in the code, but unfortunately the design never accounted for the possibility of the need to change the port. My technical folks tried to make modifications as a bandaid effort but that was an impossibility despite some valient efforts.

So now, we are faced with a major, software upgrade to the website in order to have not only our Email Alert service restored, but also to close up serious security loopholes which made us vulnerable to hackers. New software configurations have also been needed to enable the website to be properly accessed and views by new technologies such as I-pods, I-pads and Blackberry type of systems, which have become so popular in the past two years. Other technical flaws and issues emerged with our old software which has really made it necessary for these changes. I am not sure how much this will cost, and it is hoped that it will not be much. Most firms would charge $2,000 or $3,000 for such an effort in such a large website with such high traffic volumes. We simply could not afford such normal costs and we would definitely be closed down now, if it were not for my loyal webmaster and his staff who will probably put in as much as 50 to 100 man hours working on this change over.

I'm told the website structure will look very close or similar to the current configuration. The real changes will be behind the scenes, including how we upload materials and format the fonts, margins and line spacing. It may be something of a learning curve for yours truly who does much of the writing and uploading of materials to the website. In that regard, my response times may be a bit slow, taking longer to get an item posted, but once learned, hopefully postings will be much quicker with less chance for readers to get temporarily booted off the website when we post or blocked from access while we're posting new material. At present, my weekly articles for the Round Up and Mideast Spotlight can take 2 or 3 hours to be completely posted from start to finish.

This changeover may take a week or more to complete including tinkering and testing. Once completed, most of our current and archived articles should be available in the new version of The Alpha-Omega Report. I am anticipating that we should be back to normal in the next 10 days and once again able to send out Email News Alerts and Newsletter advisories. In the meantime, do check our website on a daily basis for Red Alert updates as I do not see us standing down from the Red Alert status unless or until Mideast conditions indicate the lessening chances for an outbreak of war. At the moment, the Mideast seems to be in a short, holding pattern within a very tense, flammable situation in which a minor incident could spark an outbreak of hostibilities at any time much as what happened to trigger the Summer War of 2006, when Hezbollah captured 3 Israeli soldiers.

So, do feel free to check the website on a daily basis now for Red Alert Updates that provide any new developments.

I do want to take a moment to give a special thank you to those A-O readers who've donated recently to resolve the financial crisis of the past two weeks. Your donations have succeed in keeping this website alive and functioning for yet another month. For those of you who have not donated before or not recently, it is easy to donate. Just visit our donation page for details on donating online via Paypal or by sending a personal check in the mail. LINK HERE for our donations page.

As always, we'll keep you posted with new developments as they transpire and with new prophecy study articles which are in the works now.

Sincerely in Christ,

R.A. Coombes
