A British newspaper is reporting that a group of EU foreign ministers are plotting to create a new office of president of the EU. It would merge various jobs into a single office and the president would not be directly elected by voters, but instead by a committee. In effect, the President would be a "bureaucrat."

The position would get sweeping control over the entire EU and force member-countries into an ever-greater political and economic union. Britain has been excluded from the confidential discussions known as the shady "Berlin Group" spearheaded by Germany's Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.

Opponents of the plan fear it could create a modern-day equivalent of a European Emporor as envisioned by Napoleon or - a return to the Holy Roman Empire of Charlemagne that dominated Europe in the Dark Ages. The secret maneuvers were uncovered by Britain's Lord Stoddart of Swindon.

Swindon stated: "This is a plot by people who want to abolish nation states and create a United States of Europe. The whole thing is barmy. these people are determined to achieve their objective. The only hope for Britain is to leave the EU and become an independent nation."
