The United Nations is taking steps to have a formal "ambassador" appointed for the purpose of being Planet Earth's "official" spokesperson for contact with any possible Extra-terrestrial beings who might visit earth or attempt radio communications.

The head of the UN's "Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa) is Mazlan Othman, a woman from Malaysia, who holds credentials as an astrophysicist. She will explain her new role at the Royal Society's Kavli Conference being held in Britain. The UN's rationale for the appointment stems from recent NASA discoveries of hundreds of Earth-like planets around other stars in our galaxy.

A British Space Agency expert in space law and governance responded to the UN's appointment by stating: “Othman is absolutely the nearest thing we have to a ‘take me to your leader’ person.”

We find it interesting that this development emerges amid intense speculation from within the UFO community that "government disclosure" of alien life would be announced in late 2010. While we give no credence to such rumors and speculations, we do find the timing of this UN development a bit curious.
