Russia Leader Warns Russians

of Hard Times in 2009

Russia's President Medvedev warned Russian citizens in a New Year's address that 2009 will be a year of hard economic times for the nation as falling oil prices and a collapsing Russian currency guts out the Russian economy, putting Russia at risk for economic collapse in 2009.

This means that all of those "Prophecy Experts" who thumped their chests and stating that America couldn't be in the Bible because America's economy would collapse making it the poorest of the nations and of no powerful global role. They also were pointing to Russia and China and the EU as being "THE" Power House nations for Prophecy - yet, the USA remains at the top of the economic pecking order as Russia, the EU and China teeter on the edge of the cliff and or are in free-fall off the cliff.

President Medvedev's remarks only underscore the assertion by author R.A. Coombes of "America, The Babylon" that America still remains the Babylon of Biblical Prophecy and retains its role as the key economic nation even as the global economic crisis deepens. Quake Swarm At

Yellowstone Park Caldera

A Divine Signal of Babylon's Coming Judgment?

Yellowstone National Park was jostled by a host of small earthquakes for a third straight day Monday, and scientists watched closely to see whether the more than 250 tremors were a sign of something bigger to come.

Swarms of small earthquakes happen frequently in Yellowstone, but it's very unusual for so many earthquakes to happen over several days, said Robert Smith, a professor of geophysics at the University of Utah.

"They're certainly not normal," Smith said. "We haven't had earthquakes in this energy or extent in many years." "This is an active volcanic and tectonic area, and these are the kinds of things we have to pay attention to," Smith said. "We might be seeing something precursory.

"Could it develop into a bigger fault or something related to hydrothermal activity? We don't know. That's what we're there to do, to monitor it for public safety."

The strongest of dozens of tremors Monday was a magnitude 3.3 quake shortly after noon. All the quakes were centered beneath the northwest end of Yellowstone Lake. Full Story, LINK HERELINK 2.

USA Retail Chains Collapsing?

Major Wave of Retailer Bankruptcies in 2009

Bloomberg Newswire Services is reporting that 2009 is shaping up to be a year of collapse for many of the top names in American retailing companies.

Sears stands out as a company in serious financial trouble. According to the International Council of Shopping Centers, 73,000 stores are expected to close across America in early 2009.

More than a dozen top retailers have already filed for Bankruptcy, including Circuit City, Linens 'n Things, Sharper Image, and Steve & Barry's to name a few. One retail indusry analyst on Wall Street told Bloomberg that "You'll see department stores, specialty stores, discount stores, grocery stores, drugstores, major chaines either multi-regionally or nationally go out. There are a number that are real causes for concern."

The ICSC noted that retail sales at stores open at least a year probably dropped as much as 2% in November and December, more than previously projected. It would be the largest drop since 1969 when statistic tracking began.

Bloomberg notes that consumers spent 20% less on women's clothing, electronics and jewelry during November and December according to data from SpendingPulse. Retail Metric's report for December comparable store sales index will drop an estimated 1.2%, or 5% excluding Wal-Mart stores. Retailer's 4th Quarter earnings may drop 19% on average marking it as the seventh consecutive quarterly decline according to Retail Metrics.

Experts believe that 50,000 stores could close without any real economic impact on consumer choice, but at 73,000 store closings, consumer choices would be impacted.

The ICSC predicts that 148,000 stores have or will close in 2008. That would be the largest number since 2001 when 151,000 stores closed. The ICSC predicts 73,000 stores will close in the early portion of 2009
