Terrorists Bomb Southern Israel
Palestinian terrorist group Islamic Jihad launched a rocket barrage of two dozen rockets on Wednesday into the southern Israeli city of Sderot. 1 of the rockets struck a parking lot adjacent to a supermarket injuring a dozen people. The attack comes two days before a general cease-fire agreement ends between Israel and the Gaza Palestinians.
The stage appears to be set for Israel's military to launch military operations into Gaza to deal with the ever-increasing rocket attacks though its unclear whether Prime Minister Olmert has the fortitude to order such attacks in his waning days as the caretaker Prime Minister. Israeli war planes retaliated with air strikes at suspected rocket launch positions.
Sderot was not the only city targeted for rocket attacks. The city of Ashkelon was also struck on Wednesday with two injuries reported. On Tuesday, Palestinians launched 11 rockets into southern Israel.
Islamic Jihad has announced it may increase its cross-border rocket barragse regardless of the truce date. Hamas leaders indicate that while they will not renew the cease-fire, they also would not fire at Israel unless provoked. Meanwhile, their security forces have arrested several members of smaller rival factions vying for power in Gaza.

OPEC Slashes Oil Production
In Effort To Stop Falling Prices
OPEC members agreed at a Wednesday summit to slash daily oil production by 2.2 million barrels of oil. Despite the decision, oil prices fell to just above $40. Prices haven't hovered this low since 2004. Production cuts take effect on New Year's day. More details, LINK HERE.

Oil Price Collapse Continues
Now Below $34 a Barrel
Despite or in spite of OPEC's summit announcement of a large production cut effective January 1, the oil markets continue to see a major sell-off in oil resulting in a continuing collapse in oil prices. As the last week before Christmas ends, oil prices have slumped to below $34.00 a barrel in overnight trading into Friday morning, 12-19-08. The breathtaking slide in oil prices has come in just less than 5 months with a price decline of 77% from its all-time record high of $147.27 set back in July.
Some oil analysts believe that the price of oil could potentially reach as low as $20.00 a barrell. One analyst thinks it might even fall to as low as $10 or $12 per barrell before bottoming out. Most analysts believe however that we'll not likely see consistent daily oil prices above $50-$60 until the global economy is in growth mode again which most economists do not expect for at least 18 to 36 months at best.
Some economists warn that the recession could turn into depression and last a decade or more. It is this latter concern that has helped to over-blow the oil price slide down to its current level. Iraqi Coup Plot Foiled
Saddam's Baathists Fail Attempt
At least 35 members of the late Saddam Hussein's Baathist political party have been arrested as suspects in a plot to overthrow the Iraqi government and replace it with the Baathist Party. Chrysler Closes All Its Factories
For at Least a Month
The Chrysler Corporation has announced that it will shutter all of its 30 factories for at least a month, as it halts all automotive production due to slow sales. The car maker's announcement bodes ill for both General Motors and Ford, but especially General Motors which is near bankruptcy.
The head of Ford Motor Company announced that if either Chrysler or GM folded or shut down operations such action could plunge all 3 car makers into crisis that could destroy the entire US auto industry in one fell swoop because all 3 manufacturers rely on the same secondary manufacturers of parts. A shutdown by any of the Big-3 car makers would devastate the parts suppliers bringing them into bankruptcy. Such a development could spiral into a total collapse of the US auto industry from which there might be no resurrection.

Bush Bails Out Detroit
Big 3 Auto Makers Get $17 Billion Loan
President Bush announced on Friday that his administration was providing a $17 billion dollar emergency bailout loan to America's Big-3 automakers.
"If we were to allow the free market to take its course now, it would almost certainly to disorderly bankruptcy and liquidation for the automakers," Bush said at the White House, in remarks carried live by the national broadcast networks.
"Such a collapse would deal an unacceptable blow to Americans far beyond the auto industry. ... It could send our suffering economy into a deeper and longer recession."
Of the total, $13.4 billion will be paid out in December and January. The last $4 billion is contingent on the second installment of the Wall Street bailout funds from Congress.

The Supreme Court will hold a conference on President-Elect Obama's eligibility to hold the office of President after waves of lawsuits challenging Obama's citizenship flood the court system. The original lawsuit by Pennsylvania Democrat and Clinton supporter Phillip Berg has been resurrected by the Supreme Court after at first refusing to proceed with a review of the case. Obama's COS Implicated in Scandal?
President-elect Obama's Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel is reported by Fox News to have had direct discussions with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich concerning a successor to Obama's Senate seat. The Chicago Sun-Times cites sources with knowledge of the conversations stating that Emanuel pushed for the appointment of Valerie Jarrett shortly after the presidential election. Emanuel reportedly asked that the appointment be made by a certain date. The Sun-Times sources told the patper that the Governor told his aides about the conversations with Emanuel. It is suspected that at least some of the conversations between Emanuel and the Governor were recorded on tape by FBI wiretaps.
The scandal surrounding the Illinois governor continues to plague the Obama transition team and speculation mounts that perhaps members of the Obama team were involved in either illegal or questionable dealings. DaVince Code Theory Gets Boost
Three Invisible drawings have been discovered on the back of a Leonardo Da Vinci masterpiece. The discovery of these invisible drawings harkens back to the famous, best-selling novel turned into a Hollywood movie thriller, "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. In Brown's novel, the story line indicates the famous artist left behind clues to esoteric secrets of Babylon's mystery religion secrets and claims that defy the Gospel accounts of Jesus life, death and resurrection. Those clues in Brown's novel were left behind by Da Vinci in his art works to guide future researchers to an understanding of who the future NWO messiah would be and how he would be identified.
Now comes word that in real life, 3 nearly invisible drawings have been found on the back of one of Da Vinci's major works. A museum curator spotted the sketches on the back of "The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne." The curator of the Louvre Museum in Paris, noticed the three nearly invisible drawings when the painting was taken down for restoration work.
The Da Vinci Code novel's character, Sylvain Laveissiere pointed out some grey marks that had been previously dismissed as stains. To him they represented a horse's head and a human skull. The painting was subsequently photographed with an infra-red camera at the Centre for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France. The infrafred photo revealed that on the wood on which the work was mounted contained a horse's head and a skull complete iwth orbital and nasal cavities, jaw and teeth. The camera also detected a third drawing of the infant Jesus with a lamb which was invisible to the naked eye.
A spokesman for the Louvre Museum commented that the discovery of the invisible art is "amusing and moving" considering that they had gone unnoticed for 500 years. One of the Louvre's restoration experts, Bruno Mottin remarked of the find, "They were not meant to be kept. They ahd been largely wiped out, which explains why no one had spotted them until now."
The Louvre also indicated that there was evidence to suggest that the sketches, done in black stone or charcoal, were in fact made by Da Vinci and not someone else. A Louvre spokesman, Vincent Pomarede noted "we're being very careful, but what is troubling is the similarity with drawings that are already known." Mr Pomarede speculated that Da Vinci may have the back of the painting to practice on. Jill Burke an English art specialist and expert on Da Vinci also concurs noting that it was quite typical of Da Vinci's working style to quickly sketch out ideas that popped into his head on whatever was available," such as paper, a wood panel or whatever.
The museum is not finished with its research and announced it would carry out additional tests to try to confirm the idientity of the drawing's creator.
Although other art experts have suggested that one of Leonardo’s many followers may have been responsible for the sketches, all agree that there is no material here for a Dan Brown sequel. Francis Ames-Lewis, an art historian and vice-president of the Leonardo da Vinci Society, said it was a myth that the artist included coded messages in his works. Full story details, LINK HERE.
